Memorial Day Lake Powell Trip

This is a stitched picture from eight or nine photos. You may have to click on it to get a close up.
For Memorial Day I joined 64 other mid-singles (all LDS) for a weekend excursion to Lake Powell. Two houseboats, several tents (and tarps purchased after we learned about the weather), four wave runners, four boats, two days of rain, and two with sun made for great memories.

The drive up with my co-workers and friends was fabulous, and we enjoyed stopping to see a "Mor on" pioneer memorial. Good thing C keeps a permanent marker on her so we were able to fix the sign. Too bad the girl we turned around to help who was AT the memorial drove away just to drive up.

It poured rain on Saturday, but I went wake boarding anyway. The water was warmer than the air, and those who got into the water paid a heavy price getting out. Drying off was simply not an option. You can see from these pictures that the weather was pretty miserable (cold and rainy), but the company was incredible. We finally saw sun on Sunday, and tried to have a great devotional after hiking into a slot canyone. I arrived riding a wave runner through six foot white water waves. However, we returned to camp after the hike to the destination was deemed not possible.
Thank you, Larry, for being our water water wave runner hero. It was so much fun! As you can see, I was pretty focused on not falling off. Larry, on the other hand, had me collapsing his ribs and C grabbing onto his belt loops. I'm sure it was a fun ride for him. :)
Our devotional was held later that evening after which we were treated to yummy dessert. The message? What can we do in our lives today to ensure that we would be ready to go at any time? A few of the women on our trip had lost parents at early ages (one of whom was the same age as her Father was when he passed away and while she was with us) and it sparked discussion (appropriately so on Memorial Day weekend) regarding whether or not we would feel ready to go at this time in our lives. We discussed prayer, weekly temple attendance, promptings from the Spirit, the need for the Atonement in our lives. Lives were touched, including my own. I felt so uplifted and lucky to be there with everyone.
Monday offered us sun we could play in, and we all tried to get in some play time before we headed home. I did not get another change to go wake boarding, but enjoyed time out on the boat.
Many thanks to the small child who lost his/her inflatable toy in the lake. Marcell (top, center) was kind enough to reach over the edge of the boat to grab it. I MIGHT have been kind enough to help his feet and the rest of him go overboard as well. But you can't tell that I'm guilty at ALL . :)
I'm being totally vain and posting this picture because it's the best one taken of me on the trip. Many thanks to Judy for NOT posting the one of me with curly, nasty, lake hair in pajamas with a towel around my neck on facebook. You are a true friend. P.S. Aaron and I are not dating, though this does look like some sort of engagement photo op.

Many thanks to Mark Wangsgaard for putting together an incredible group of people to go to Lake Powell.

How much fun was THAT? Where are you living at these days anyways? It has to be some popular LDS place because I can't imagine there being that many mid-singles congregated anywhere else! And p.s. Why are you two not dating? Look what a cute couple you make! :)

p.s.s I came across an old old photo of you from BYU. Remember when we made Brad J. cookies after his wisdom tooth got pulled? I've got a picture to prove it! :)

I'm living in Phoenix (hot as ever) and loving it. However, the trip was actually a mix of people from Utah, Arizona, California (???), and Oregon. We had a great time.

As for the picture, send me a copy if you get a chance or can find a way to make it electronic. You can find my email address by looking at the blog profile.
